Cold Joints in RC Structures: Determination, Design, Strengthening
Join us for the next fib YMG Webinar featuring Andrey Lapshinov on "Cold Joints in RC Structures: Determination, Design, Strengthening"! It will take place on 29 April 2021 at 6 PM CEST.
Concrete joints are quite essential for reinforced concrete structures, without them it will not be possible to construct any building. However, when concreting cast-in-situ structures, sometimes so-called concrete cold joints can appear, which are not provided by the project. At the same time, the regulatory literature does not fully reflect the issues related to the requirements for the definition and calculation of such joints. Some studies show that in the presence of inclined cold concreting joints in the structure as an initiated crack, the strength decreases sharply. The report will consider case studies where cold concreting joints were found, both horizontal and inclined. Examples of calculation and reinforcement of structures with identified cold concreting joints will also be given. Modern methods of georadolocation show excellent convergence with the results of core drilling and are indispensable in the survey of structures of large areas.
